MySejahtera offers better protection of customers' info - MMA

Malaysiakini

The use of MySejahtera to record customers’ personal information is safer than manual registration or doing it with other applications, said Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) president Dr N Ganabaskaran.
He said the government’s decision to make MySejahtera mandatory for all businesses nationwide would not only facilitate contact tracing in the event of Covid-19 infections but also better protect customers' information.
According to him, the uniform adoption of the MySejahtera app in all premises is seen to facilitate various parties, especially customers who only need to download one application.
"By downloading the app, we can use it everywhere. For me, it is safer in protecting personal information," he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Ganabaskaran also expressed his concern over the possible misuse of personal details given to business outlets, such as the sale of mobile phone numbers by irresponsible parties.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said yesterday that all business owners are required to use the MySejahtera application as it would be gazetted under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).
Noor Hisham said the move was necessary as the Health Ministry was facing difficulty in tracing close contacts of Covid-19 cases detected at public places.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma) president Jawahar Ali Taib Khan said he supported the government’s move to make the MySejahtera app compulsory.
He said all members of the association had been using the MySejahtera app since it was introduced and hoped the government could make some improvements.
“Applications like this are safer because we are concerned that when we share a pen to write down our personal details in a logbook, it may increase the risk of infection.
“Maybe the application can be upgraded by providing temperature sensors so that it would be easier for customers to record their own body temperature,” he added.
