Latest Covid-19 wave affected five malls in Klang Valley within 10 days
COVID-19 | The recent wave of Covid-19 cases has placed several shopping malls in the Klang Valley under the microscope.
In the last 10 days, several incidents have affected at least five malls, four of these in Kuala Lumpur and one in Selangor.
Most of the cases did not affect the entire mall but the premises of specific tenants.
However, the malls have also taken the appropriate action, such as sanitisation works as a preventive measure.
Below is a list of the mall-related incidents in the last 10 days.
The Linc KL
On Sept 24, The Linc KL's management announced that the parent of an attendee at a childcare centre within the mall had been tested positive for Covid-19.
The child last attended a half-day programme at Trinity Kids on Sept 17.
"We have taken all necessary preventive measures to contain the risk of exposure to our customers, staff and tenants.
"Our immediate actions include disinfection of all common areas of The Linc KL by a professional disinfectant company," it had said in a statement.
In an update, later that day, the mall's management said teachers who may be second-generation contact with the Covid-19 patient have been tested negative but assured it will increase preventive measures to ensure safety.
Suria KLCC
On Sept 25, Babel, an exclusive gym located within Suria KLCC, announced that one of its members had come down with Covid-19.
It said the member had made several outstation trips, including to a high-risk zone and was tested positive for Covid-19 on Sept 23.
The member, it added, had attended a gym at its KLCC branch on four occasions and also twice at its Taman Tun Dr Ismail branch between Sept 9 and 17.
In an update on Sept 27, the gym reported that all members and staff who came in contact with the Covid-19 patient underwent a swab test and the results were negative.
Following the incident, the gym said it was implementing a travel declaration form.
The Suria KLCC management also said it carried out thorough sanitisation and disinfection exercise at the gym and the nearby areas.
NU Sentral
On Sept 27, the Nu Sentral management announced that one of its staff was, on Sept 26, confirmed to be positive with Covid-19.
It added that all other employees who have been in contact with the Covid-19 patient also underwent a Covid-19 test on the same day and the first batch of results have returned negative.
However, all the employees are still required to self-isolate for 14 days.
"We would like to assure all tenants, vendors and customers that the case is an isolated case and has been immediately attended upon identification. We are working closely with the Health Ministry on any further follow-up measures that may be required.
"As a precautionary action, NU Sentral Shopping Centre has conducted a thorough sanitisation of the whole mall area in accordance with the Safety and Health Guidelines issued by the Health Ministry on Sept 26," it said.
KL Gateway Mall
On Sept 25, the KL Gateway Mall management announced there was a suspected case at Menara Suezcap 1.
While the incident did not occur in the mall itself, the office tower building is linked to the mall.
In an update yesterday, the management said the employee at Menara Suezcap 1, who came in contact with a Covid-19 patient who returned from Sabah, was confirmed to be negative.
"However, the particular office shall remain temporarily closed until further notice.
"As part of the integrated development, the shopping mall shall continue with all the routine cleaning and disinfection process as your safety and well-being are our utmost priority," it said.
Sunway Pyramid Mall
On Sept 25, the Sunway Pyramid Mall management said it was informed that a staff member at a Nike outlet at the mall was tested positive with Covid-19.
"The mall management obtained the affected Nike staff’s MySejahtera check-ins records and confirmed that the Nike staff only came to work in the outlet on Sept 22 and 23.
"The Nike staff also did not visit any other outlet in the mall, except for one convenience store.
"The management contacted the convenience store operator to inform them of the case and sanitisation for the store was arranged immediately," it said, adding that the store staff were also sent for testing.
It said this was on top of periodical after-hours deep cleaning of the mall.
