Saifuddin: Malaysia needs caring govt, PM brought Covid-19 under control
Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah believes that Malaysia needs a caring government and prime minister at a time the country is battling the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said an unstable government would not be able to properly contain the pandemic.
“It’s been proven that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, has managed to tackle the pandemic. That is why the Covid-19 situation in the country is under control now.
“Just after being announced as the prime minister, the first thing he (Muhyiddin) did was to shape the way we handled the pandemic. That is why initially only two spokespersons could provide details on Covid-19, with the two being Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, as we wanted the information given out to be accurate and verified,” he said.
Saifuddin said this at a friendly get-together at Dewan Terbuka Kampung Ulu Putatan in Sabah yesterday. Also present were Senior Education Minister Radzi Jidin and PN’s Petagas candidate Arsit Sedi.
He said that with Malaysia facing an uncertain situation right now, Muhyiddin was the perfect and most qualified person to head the federal government.
“He (Muhyiddin) never sought to become the prime minister but since he has held the post, he has done his best,” he said.
On PKR president Anwar Ibrahim’s claim to having a strong majority to form the next government at a time the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah is unwell, Saifuddin said it clearly showed his (Anwar’s) lack of respect for the King.
Saifuddin said Anwar’s action in holding a press conference when the whole nation was praying for His Majesty’s well-being showed the Port Dickson Member of Parliament’s true colours in his obsession to become the prime minister.
“I am from Pahang, the King is my Sultan. I am angry with Anwar for doing that,” he said, adding that Anwar’s claims had disrupted the economic situation in the country, which had been affected by the pandemic.
“Shares dipped after his press conference at a time when we are still struggling with the pandemic and the Sabah state election on Sept 26. His action doesn’t help the situation but interferes with the people's welfare.”
