Meeting to discuss Bersatu's entry into Muafakat Nasional cancelled

A Muafakat Nasional meeting tonight to discuss Bersatu’s entry into the coalition has been cancelled at the last minute.

According to Muafakat joint secretariat secretary-general Annuar Musa, the cancellation was based on advice from the National Security Council (NSC).

“No (meeting). Some are present, but the meeting is already cancelled upon the NSC’s advice,” Annuar told reporters.

The development came just hours after a source confirmed an Umno supreme council meeting slated to be held in Pahang tomorrow was also cancelled due to the conditional movement control order now in place in the Klang Valley.

This morning, Annuar said the question of Bersatu joining Muafakat would be discussed at the meeting.

This comes as Umno, which is a Perikatan Nasional ally, is considering withdrawing its support from the coalition that comprises Bersatu, PAS, and several other parties.

Umno’s withdrawal was supposed to be discussed at the party’s supreme council meeting in Pahang tomorrow, but that too has been cancelled.

Meanwhile, Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who was seen leaving the meeting venue at about 11.05pm, confirmed that no meeting took place.

“No meeting. My office is on the 28th floor (of Menara Dato’ Onn), the Youth office. No (meeting),” he told reporters.

PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad was seen leaving soon after and was evasive when reporters asked whether there was a discussion regarding Bersatu joining Muafakat.

“There was nothing. I want to go home. Rain, rain,” he said to reporters.

Also seen at the venue was PAS Ulama chief Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh. - Mkini
