IPOH: Three more schools in Perak and another in Melaka have been ordered closed due to detection of or contact with Covid-19 cases.

SK Tanah Kebun in Parit Buntar as well as SK Klebang Jaya and SMK Aminuddin Baki in Chemor, near here, will be closed until Oct 25.

State Education Committee chairman Razman Zakaria said the schools were ordered closed from yesterday after Covid-19 cases were detected among students.

“The schools will be closed for seven days for cleaning and disinfection work, ” he said.

On Oct 11 and 12, six schools in Larut Matang Selama district and another in Lekir were ordered closed.

Razman called on parents and guardians not to panic but to follow the standard operating procedures set by the National Security Council and Health Ministry in order to break the chain of transmission.

In Melaka, SMK Simpang Bekoh in Jasin was also instructed to close for a week until Oct 25 after a nurse, who is the mother of two students, tested positive for Covid-19.

Bemban assemblyman Datuk Dr Wong Fort Pin said swab tests had been done on the siblings, who are in Form Three and Form Five, on Sunday.

“Their mother is a frontliner and is believed to have contracted the virus while on duty, ” he said.

Dr Wong said he would give out face masks to the students and render further support as the case involved a nurse at a government clinic.

He also said the school’s 516 students and 80 teachers would undergo swab tests.

Two other Melaka schools currently closed are SMK Lubok China and SK Telok Berembang in Masjid Tanah, Alor Gajah.

Both schools were ordered closed on Oct 15 after two students from each of the schools tested positive for Covid-19.

On Oct 9, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the Education Ministry could decide if any school should close once a Covid-19 case was confirmed among teachers or students, and need not wait for a risk assessment from the Health Ministry to issue a closure order. - Star
