No blind support for Budget 2021 from Pejuang MPs, says Mahathir
LANGKAWI: Pejuang is prepared to support Budget 2021 which will be tabled in Parliament next week but only after its MPs have studied its content at length.
Party chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad said its elected representatives needed to look into the details of the proposals before they can decide on how to vote.
“We want to agree but we do not know what it is (contents of budget). Surely, we are not going to sign a blank cheque. We have to know what’s in the budget.
“As the text of the budget is thick and in two languages, we have to read it first,” he told reporters after a meeting with Langkawi Pejuang representatives at a hotel here last night.
The former prime minister was asked to comment on the call by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah who had advised members of Dewan Rakyat to give their support to Budget 2021 for the well-being of the people and recovery of the country’s economy affected by Covid-19.
Mahathir, who is also Langkawi MP, said it was the responsibility of each MP to study the important documents before making a decision whether to support it.
Commenting on the registration of Pejuang, which has yet to be approved, Mahathir urged the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to state clearly what was needed to confirm the registration of the party.
“Tell us what is incomplete. We will abide by the law. If we have infringed any part of the law, we will amend accordingly,” he said. - FMT
