Tamrin issues demand letter to Zuraida, Puad
PETALING JAYA: Businessman Tamrin Ghafar said he has sent a notice of demand to Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin and Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi for associating him with the direct tender of a project.
Tamrin, a former MP for Batu Berendam, said the same notice will be sent to bloggers and others who have defamed him including Aziz Yassin, a member of PPBM’s Supreme Council.
In a statement today, Tamrin said the letter to Zuraida was sent on Oct 13 and receipt was acknowledged on Oct 14 by her aide.
Tamrin did not give details of the contents of the notice. However, in defamation disputes, the plaintiff usually demands an apology and retraction of the defamatory statements, and damages.
Zuraida had previously said that Tamrin, as an adviser to Bumi Segar Indah Sdn Bhd, which was awarded the RM170.3 million contract for the solid waste project, had directly negotiated the deal with former finance minister Lim Guan Eng in November 2018.
Tamrin, in response, said the project was in fact negotiated by the Barisan Nasional government in 2017.
In August this year, the project was listed among 101 projects with a total value of RM6.61 billion said to have been granted through direct negotiations by the Pakatan Harapan government.
The list, released by the finance ministry, showed the housing and local government ministry as awarding a RM170.3 million contract to Bumi Segar Indah to build, operate and maintain a solid waste transfer station in Taman Beringin, Kepong.
Zuraida had said she had no knowledge of the project and later laid the blame on Lim, stating that he had agreed to reduce the project cost by 10% and advised Bumi Segar Indah to approach the housing and local government ministry to formally make a proposal for it. - FMT
