Health DG: Don't lie to frontliners on Covid-19 symptoms

COVID-19 | Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has warned the public against lying to frontliners about their health condition.

Taking to Facebook, Noor Hisham today shared a post from a doctor in Johor who said she tested positive for Covid-19 after exposure to a patient who did not disclose their symptoms.

"Do not lie to frontliners. We must also be protected, we have family, we have friends.

"Don't persecute our frontliners," he stressed.

According to the post shared by Noor Hisham, the doctor was in charge of performing a CT scan on a patient who came in with no symptoms.

The doctor, however, said the patient admitted to having a fever and cough for a week prior to the appointment. But this information was only provided after the CT scan image showed a lung condition similar to a Covid-19 positive patient.

The patient was confirmed positive for Covid-19 two days after the CT scan procedure.

The doctor, meanwhile, said she had taken a swab test at another hospital and is under home quarantine, although she only had close contact with the patient for about 15 minutes.

She was later confirmed Covid-19 positive but had attended work for two days prior to being tested, risking the chance of infection among healthcare workers.

On Tuesday, Noor Hisham said 1,880 healthcare workers had contracted Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Last week, he said the disease was detected among healthcare workers at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang, Serdang Hospital, Sungai Buloh Hospital, Kuala Lumpur Hospital, Ampang Hospital and Selayang Hospital.

On Dec 18, he said 280 Health Ministry medical personnel were in treatment for Covid-19 while 1,697 were issued home surveillance orders. - Mkini
