YOURSAY | Kedah MB, dismiss online comments at your peril

YOURSAY | ‘There is truly a difference between a good statesman and an absolutely terrible one.’

Kedah MB tells public to avoid Malaysiakini, asks reporters to repent

Malaysia Bharu: Like the proverbial poor workman that blames his tool, Malaysiakini has become the latest victim of Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s temple demolition saga, the typical SOP (standard operating procedure) of race-and-religion politicians afflicted with the foot-in-mouth disease.

But the spotlight is still on Sanusi because what started as an issue of temple demolition has now evolved into Sanusi’s competency to be Kedah MB.

Is he an MB for all Kedahans irrespective of race and religion and has he the ability to develop the economic potentials of Kedah to that of its neighbour, Penang, or even the other states in the west coast?

Because if he is left as he is to play with the people's emotions of race and religion for his political power, the people of Kedah will suffer and Kedah would go the way of PAS-ruled Kelantan and Terengganu as the most backwards state in the west coast.

The ball is now in the people's court come GE15.

Malaysia Is Surrealist Art That Can Be Bought: The MB wants to give us a tutorial on reading analogies... how sweet.

Had you merely used the word "drunk", Your-Highly-Educated, your argument that the dull-brained masses have misinterpreted your analogy would have held some water.

Unfortunately, from your tongue clearly spewed the additional words, "bottle" and 'toddy". I fear to give it to you that the additional (slip?) renders your statement no longer an analogy but a blatantly direct suggestion with nothing to read in between the lines.

Before I pen off, I'd like to remind the MB that it is a war tactic to keep your friends close and your enemies even closer. Making war with Malaysiakini, a portal by ‘infidels for infidels’, would not bode well for him in the long run.

As for netizens and influencers, well, he should be told that they are the new-age media. Anyway, all the best, Sanusi, but Harakahdaily alone may not be able to save your eroded reputation.

Goliath: There is truly a difference between a good statesman and an absolutely terrible one. Politicians in Malaysia are on both extremes in the divide. From their announcements, thoughts and comments, you can roughly guess which side they belong to.

Citizens of any form and kind are citizens. They are tax-paying people who happen to be the source of funds for this MB’s salary. In theory, he works for us.

News portals are also run by citizens, and they pay equally, if not more, to the well-being of these politicians. The sooner these MBs realise who they are supposed to be obligated to, the better they can perform their tasks.

This MB clearly doesn’t think he works for the people. Disrespecting any news portal and netizens of any race is a disgrace in itself.

Low Class Coolie: Goodness! You are the only one that needs to repent. Clearly, you are blaming the whole world except yourself. Every time you open your big mouth, you only dig a bigger grave for yourself.

Why are you under the illusion that you are so great and powerful and just elbow everyone in your path?

The Overlook: I think he is having a difficult time understanding the comments in English here. Plus, he is too ‘bodoh sombong’ to ask anyone with a better grasp of English to interpret what we are talking about.

And, the level of critical thinking in Malaysiakini is exceedingly high among some of the most prolific commenters, albeit in the English section.

Typically, narrow-minded people would discriminate what they don't comprehend, out of fear.

So, let's keep on commenting and let him be more scared. Narcissists like him will be worried about anything that can tarnish them since they see a much amazing flawless version of themselves every day in their mirrors.

If netizens' comments here have no credibility and do not represent real people's views, then why was Malaysiakini hauled to court months ago? Are you saying you are way smarter than the judges?

Newday: Dismiss online comment at your peril, Kedah MB. Does that mean we can dismiss Harakahdaily, PAS news portal, as well?

Soon it will be 2021, online news and online commentary is the standard forum for the dissemination of information, whether you or anyone else in PAS like it or not.

We are not compliant or easily swayed by politician-speak. We can see through the arrogance of politicians who make outlandish comments.

Since PAS came out of their hidey-hole in the past year or so, you have become exposed like never before. We call a spade a spade and will call out those that overstep their remit.

Get used to 2021, MB. Get used to making sure you are really governing for all citizens and not just the compliant few.

Coward: I suppose Sanusi believes that there is political mileage to keeping the issue alive in the media. For that, we will oblige.

I remember one deputy minister who blew an issue about internet access in Sabah completely out of proportion and was overtly chastised by the PM and a fellow minister when he met his "nemesis" in Sabah. What happened to him? He has to bite the bullet and stop inciting the public.

Will we have someone checking this escalation by an MB? I don't know. Perhaps a word or gesture from the Kedah sultan when things start to get out of hand? Get out of hand it will if he does not tamper his crude and uncalled-for way to silence critics.

Keep up the good work, Malaysiakini. You know you succeeded in your job of holding politicians to account when they made statements like this. Ever sweeter, when they know they are so wrong that to try to harass you with a lawsuit will bring further embarrassment to themselves.

The Truth Is Out There: I am an ardent subscriber and reader of Malaysiakini, always have and always will. Most mainstream media just report the news as is (which most of the time is in favour of what politicians want the people to hear).

Critical thinking, people. Have a mind of your own. Be curious, ask questions - what, why, when, where, how? - Mkini
