YOURSAY | Little Napoleons and their mini stadiums

YOURSAY | ‘Since ‘ffira’ in Bulgarian means ‘wastage’, the name of the mini-stadium should be retained.’

District officer denies naming stadium after himself, claims it's Spanish or Greek

Vijay47: What is truly astounding is that these denizens from Kedah can do such cheap things without the least bit of embarrassment.

Like his statemate, Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, Padang Terap district officer Hakim Ariff Md Noor must have been imbibing his share of the metaphorical toddy to have embarked on this misadventure of self-glorification.

To claim that one word is of Greek or Spanish origin may be a serendipitous coincidence. But two words together? This must be the first time in Grecian history that Greeks went bearing gifts to a football stadium.

‘Eltotsira’ must be rolling in his grave. For those not familiar with Stagiran culture, that like ‘ffira’, is Aristotle in reverse.

Anyway, Spanish, Greek, or Arabic, it is all Greek to me.

Malaysia4All: So, Hakim Ariff is explaining that the chosen name for the mini-stadium is spelt exactly as his name in reverse was simply a coincidence? Unbelievable!

It's like telling us that someone donated RM2.6 billion into one’s personal bank account. How pathetic can a person get? How dumb does he think Malaysians are?

Malaysia Bharu: This is what is most lovable about Malaysia Boleh – the-round-the-clock entertainment.

We never run short of comedians and clowns to keep our spirits up even in the worst of times when our spirits are down with Covid-19 and its daunting health and economic repercussions.

In light of the ‘Ffira Mikah’ Arab, Spanish, Greek concoction, it is time to examine many of the foreign-sounding words creeping into what used to be Malay - words like ‘muafakat’, a word not known to be Malay.

Kalui 64: No shame, indeed. He is caught red-handed. What has he done to deserve the honour of naming the stadium after himself? Or does he like things to be done backwards?

CEC: So, it has come to this level. Monkey see, monkey do.

When a district officer (DO) looks at the national leadership, he/she will see that there's nothing wrong in being self-serving and benefiting oneself using public funds.

There might even be a virtue in coming out with lame and laughable excuses. May God save this country, since all the MPs and the voters can't do that.

Lionking: This is really funny. Yes, why not make hay while the sun shines. It seems that corruption can come in many forms.

Don’t worry DO, there is zero accountability in most cases, especially in the ones with high value, and this is only a name. You could have sold the stadium.

6th Generation Immigrant: Apparently, corruption in the nation transcends not only the monetary boundaries but even capitalised by ‘unintelligent’ folks. Is this a new norm in the nation?

Rod of Justice 2020: PAS got a free ride into the backdoor government. Now even a small district officer has the audacity to deceptively named buildings after him.

Sabah and Sarawak, beware and be very fearful. PAS’ intention is to build an Islamic state and declare themselves as caliph.

Knucklehead: Hakim Ariff claimed that the mini stadium's rebranded name was a combination of Arabic and Spanish or Greek.

If you have the fortitude to use your name, at least admit it when caught. Don't give us this bull-crap about Arabic, Spanish and Greek. Everything is just a Google away.

For A Better Malaysia: “He (Hakim Ariff) claimed that the mini stadium's rebranded name was a combination of Arabic and Spanish or Greek.”

What is this? Arabic is Arabic, Spanish is Spanish and Greek is Greek. I just don't understand what’s this "combination of".

Ruslan Bahari: You know what's even more embarrassing. Nobody in the entire chain of command found it fit to warn him or correct him or even report it prior to the launch.

Now, Kedah has ordered it to be re-named. More money wasted to make new signages.

YellowKoala7998: This is what we are now in Malaysia with incompetent, brainless and arrogant government officers. There are some good ones too, but they are always undermined by these little Napoleons.

Astrologer: “Google does not recognise the word ‘ffira’ as Spanish or Greek. It auto-detects the word as Bulgarian and carries the meaning ‘wastage’.”

Malaysiakini, you made my day. I had a good laugh.

To Our Future: Thank you so much for this hilarious article. I was having a bad Sunday and like they say, ‘Laughter is the best medicine’.

Since we don’t have a shortage of clowns in higher places, I look forward to more laughs.

Harimau_Arif: This got to be the funniest thing I’ve ever seen and certainly made my day.

The Padang Terap district officer was clearly caught with his pants down and he’s still trying to spin it just like his RM43 trillion REE (rare earth elements) boss. PAS/PN doesn’t seem to have any shortage of talented and brilliant politicians.

Dswami: ‘Fira’ in Spanish means ‘fair’. ‘Fira’ in Greek means ‘maiden’. There's no ‘ffira’ in both languages.

‘Mirah’ in Arabic means ‘supply or provisions’. You are turning out to be quite a Joe Biden.

MS: Since ‘ffira’ in Bulgarian means ‘wastage’, the name of the mini-stadium should be retained.

Malaysians, especially those in Padang Terap, must never forget that everything spent to educate the dyslexic Ffira Mikah has been a waste.

Now that I have learnt at least one Bulgarian word, I see how it can be used to label so many without sounding offensive. - Mkini
