Another road death due to a pothole in Klang Valley

 

Barely a day after a senior citizen was killed in an accident linked to a pothole, another similar tragedy happened in the Klang Valley today.

The second incident occurred in Mutiara Damansara when a food delivery rider hit a pothole at Jalan PJU 7/2 this afternoon, causing him to lose control of his bike before crashing on the side of the road.

The 31-year-old Grab Food rider died instantly at the scene.

According to Petaling Jaya District police chief Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal, the incident happened at about 1.15pm when the victim, who hailed from Kampung Chempaka in Petaling Jaya, was approaching a T-junction before he accidentally hit the pothole.

"The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant. A post-mortem will be conducted at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre after his Covid-19 test result is acquired.

"Investigation is being carried out under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," Nik Ezanee said in a statement.

Earlier, a video clip showing the victim lying on the road shortly after the accident had gone viral on social media.

It is believed that the video was taken by another rider, who urged the authorities to take note of the road condition in the area, which is located near the upmarket shopping complex The Curve.

"Similar accidents have happened many times in this location before, but did not cause any death.

"But now, someone has been killed here. We hope that the related parties will take note. 

"We riders are not asking for a clean road, but at least provide a road with an even surface," said the person recording the video.

Yesterday morning, a 75-year-old man was found dead at the site of a motorcycle accident linked to a pothole.

The Star reported that the man, identified as Ho Yan Yee, was riding along Jalan Tengah in Kuala Lumpur and heading towards Mid Valley Megamall when he lost control of his motorcycle.

The issue related to potholes recently became a hot topic when minister Khairy Jamaluddin sustained injuries when he fell after hitting one while cycling in Banting, prompting the Kuala Langat Public Works Department to issue an apology almost immediately after the incident. - Mkini
