NSC approves Batu Caves Thaipusam chariot procession - minister

 

The National Security Council has approved the Thaipusam chariot procession ferrying to bring the deity of Lord Murugan to the Batu Caves Hindu temple, said Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa.

In a tweet last night, Annuar said the procession must be carried out under strict conditions.

"The chariot can't make any stops, there can be no more than 10 followers and no music and such," he said.

He added that Kuala Lumpur City Hall would be strictly monitoring the procession.

According to Annuar, the chariot will carry the Lord Murugan statue from the Jalan Bandar Mariamman temple to Batu Caves on Jan 27 and make the return trip on Jan 29.

The Batu Caves temple is under the purview of the Selangor state government.

Previously, on Jan 8, the Selangor state government said there would be no Thaipusam events in Selangor and that Hindu devotees were encouraged to perform prayers at home instead.
