Muar MP raises RM196,668 via new initiative to buy tablets for needy students

After successfully obtaining donations to buy laptops for needy students in December last year, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman once again raised close to RM200,000 via a different initiative for similar purposes.

The Muar MP said through the #ThunderBOLD initiative launched on Feb 2, the Muar Parliament office received a total of RM196,668.

The money will be used to buy tablets for 400 underprivileged students in his constituency.

Early this month, Syed Saddiq used his experience as a professional debater to launch an online short course for students where he would teach them debating, critical thinking, and public speaking skills. The RM200 fee for the course will go entirely to the fund.

In a statement, the former youth and sports minister said the class comprising 890 students will begin on Feb 20.

He added that other than Malaysia, contributors came from Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, and the United Kingdom.

"I would like to thank all who support the Muar Parliament office's initiative to raise funds to buy laptops and tablets for students.

"Every ringgit and sen raised is for the education and future of students in Muar," he said.

In December, Syed Saddiq's first fundraiser exceeded its target of RM200,000 when he received RM383,000 in contributions.

In return, he fulfilled his promise to go bald if his target was achieved. - Mkini
