Perak MB warns of multi-cornered fights if Bersatu insists on Umno seats
Perak Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad warned that Umno and Bersatu may clash in the state during the next general election.
The Perak Umno liaison chief said this was possible if Bersatu insisted on contesting seats originally won by Umno during the last general election but were taken over by Bersatu through defections.
"Bersatu should not disturb seats belonging to Umno and PAS. It should seek out new markets. That is all we ask.
"Or else, as expected, there will be three-cornered or four-cornered fights. If that happens, other people will surely take advantage and Malay parties will fall," he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
He gave the example of the Titi Serong state seat in the last general election, stating that the Malay votes were split while the non-Malay votes were behind Pakatan Harapan, resulting in a Harapan victory.
Saarani zoomed in on the state seats of Sungai Manik and Tualang Sekah as well as the parliamentary seats of Larut, Bagan Serai and Bukit Gantang.
The five seats were won by Umno in the last polls but shifted to Bersatu following defections.
"We won on the BN ticket and we won't cede them to Bersatu. There will be no compromise," he said.
Instead, the Kota Tampan assemblyperson said Bersatu should focus on seats currently held by Harapan. - Mkini
