Anwar: Poor vaccine supply is PN govt's biggest failure
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has expressed extreme dissatisfaction with the distribution of Covid-19 vaccines in the country, describing it as the biggest failure of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.
Touching on the anxiety of the people over the political stalemate and economic woes affecting the country, Anwar said the problems encountered are related to the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We have mentioned from the very beginning - the movement control order and all the lockdown measures are reasonable but (for recovery) we have to start with the vaccine.
“The biggest failure of the government is the provision of adequate vaccine supplies.
"They (government leaders) make random statements, just to try and follow political trends. I do not want to call them liars but of course they have confused the people," he said during his policy speech at the PKR Annual National Congress held virtually today.
This is not the first time the opposition leader has voiced his dissatisfaction with vaccination issues.
Previously, he had questioned the slow delivery of vaccines from China and the lagging vaccination rates.
He said if the same problem continued to plague the country, it would be impossible for it to be resolved by the end of this year.
"That is why this leadership has a big role and if they are only taking on their duties for the position, but betray its responsibilities and fail to complete the task, then disaster will befall the people," the Port Dickson MP added.
Yesterday, the Health Ministry reported 5,911 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours.
There were also 72 deaths, pushing the death toll for June alone to 1,552. Total fatalities in May were 1,289.
Of the new cases, Selangor alone had 2,111, while Negeri Sembilan recorded 770.
However, according to the website of the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) as of June 18, Selangor had the second-lowest vaccination rate with just 12.79 percent while Negeri Sembilan had just 16.26 percent vaccinated. - Mkini
