Laptops from Bukit Mertajam, Seri Kembangan for four Ketereh students

Four students in Ketereh, Kelantan, who reportedly faced difficulties to undergo online home-based learning with no personal device or Internet, can now breathe a sigh of relief.

This follows several elected representatives coming forward with donations in the form of laptops and tablets.

Anis Natasha Junoh, 17, (above, on the right) received a laptop from Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim yesterday through Kelantan Amanah Youth chief Hazmi Hassan, who arranged for the donation.

When contacted, Anis Natasha, who previously had to visit her friend's home 10km away just to borrow a laptop and an Internet connection, said she was thankful and grateful to the parties that came forward with their assistance.

"This really means a lot to me, because I can use it for my studies. With this laptop, I no longer need to go to my friend's house.

"My dream is to be a graphic designer or fashion designer. Aside from online classes, I can use this laptop to study designs.

"Thank you again to all donors and I will make the best of use of it," she added.

Earlier yesterday, Anis received the laptop from Ketereh Amanah Youth chief Asri Mohd Zain on behalf of Hazmi and Sim.

"Alhamdulillah, with help of the Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim, we could help this student (Anis) to attend her classes online after the school holidays, and also for future use," Hazmi told Malaysiakini.

Malaysiakini previously reported that Anis Natasha and three other students - Ammy Nazira, 16, Shamimi Syafiqah Rosli, 15, and Anis Arini Asri, 20, - were in need of devices and Internet connection to attend online classes.

Aside from Sim's donation, similar help for the other three students are also on the way from Seri Kembangan assemblyperson Ean Yong Hian Wah this Saturday.

Separately, Ketereh MP Annuar Musa also said he would donate a tablet to all of the students.

As an added bonus, their plights had caught the attention of the Dana Insan Malaysia Welfare Association that had pledged RM5,000 in financial assistance for each student. - Mkini
