PUTRAJAYA: The Prime Minister has called on Malaysians to keep up their fighting spirit in facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin also noted that the solid cooperation between health frontliners and the general public had helped the country rise above adversity in the current situation.

“Let us all not be discouraged by the heavy challenges that we are facing in this pandemic.

“This fight and struggle would not have succeeded without the sacrifices that every one of us made.

“We must keep up this spirit and continue to help one another. Hopefully, we can get out of this pandemic as soon as possible,” said Muhyiddin in his speech during the live telecast of the Mega Selawat PKRC programme yesterday.

He also called on Malaysians to work together in making the National Recovery Plan a success.

“Our healthcare system still remains strong and has not collapsed, thanks to the efforts and contributions by every one of us.

“Now, we are in the first phase of the National Recovery Plan and this is our hope for getting out of this pandemic in the next few years, if not months.

“We must keep fighting and helping our fellow Malaysians who are affected by the pandemic.

“The government has done what it can to help the rakyat and it will continue to do so,” he added.

The National Recovery Plan was unveiled by Muhyiddin on Tuesday. It details Malaysia’s four-phase exit strategy from the pandemic.

The country has been under a Covid-19 lockdown since June 1, with movement limited and non-essential activities restricted.

The Mega Selawat programme involved 89 PKRCs (Covid-19 quarantine centres) all over the country.

Health frontliners and patients joined the mass prayer and selawat recitation virtual session which was led by the Grand Imam of Putra Mosque, Ikmal Zaidi Hashim.

Also leading the recitals with Ikmal at the Islamic Complex Putrajaya were qaris Ahmad Tarmizi Ali and Ahmad Rahman Abbas.

“With the prayers and recitals we performed earlier, hopefully all that we do will receive blessings and help us get through our challenges,” said Muhyiddin.

He attended the programme from the Prime Minister’s Department while ministers and government heads joined the session virtually from their respective locations. The programme was broadcast live on local television and social media at 8.30am. - Star
