‘Indecent exposure': Activist lodges police report, MIC denies claim
A woman activist has lodged a police report against an MIC member for allegedly opening his pants in front of her after an argument.
However, Sungai Siput MIC denied any indecent incident occurred.
Sungai Siput district police chief Mohd Khaizam Ahmad Shahabudin confirmed police received a report from the woman on Nov 25 after the two parties argued over a drainage issue at Taman Muhibbah Jaya 2 here.
“I can confirm we have received a police report and we have opened an investigation paper.
“The probe is conducted under Section 506 of the Penal Code, and the investigation paper will be sent to the deputy public prosecutor office soon,” Khaizam told Malaysiakini when contacted.
Section 506 of the Penal Code concerns criminal intimidation which carries a punishment of up to two years imprisonment, a fine or both.
The activist, who is the secretary of an NGO, claimed that the party member had hurled inappropriate language at her before opening his pants.
According to the police report, the activist stated she and other NGO members alongside Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council officers visited the housing area after receiving complaints from local residents that the drains were clogged.
She said several MIC members at the scene blocked them and demanded that they leave.
The party members claimed that they were resolving the drainage problem and warned the NGO not to interfere.
When the NGO members did not conform, an argument ensued and the situation became tense.
During the argument, a MIC member allegedly used inappropriate language and opened his pants in front of the activist.
MIC considering legal action
Meanwhile, Sungai Siput MIC chairperson K Manimaran denied the activist’s allegation.
“I was at the scene when the incident happened, and I strongly deny any sexual harassment that was done by our members.
“That woman purposely fabricated the claim to raise sympathy from the local residents,” he said when contacted.
Manimaran added that MIC will make a police report tomorrow and is considering legal action against the activist. - Mkini
