ZAHID WILL REGRET IT: DESPITE OPEN GRAND THEFT OF NATIONAL COFFERS, DPM REITERATES SUPPORT FOR NAJIB
PUTRAJAYA – Politics in Malaysia has become a field for slander, invective and conspiracy, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.
He said certain quarters have turned politics into a platform to spread conspiracy aimed at damaging the current leadership.
“Politics is no longer a space for consensus but a way to fulfill one’s desire to get power and position.
“It should be made a platform to improve the wellbeing of the ‘ummah’ (community), but then some politicians used it to grab seats and positions. They put aside the Islamic values,” he said when closing the 2017 International Wasatiyyah Seminar.
Meanwhile, Zahid said he will remain wala’ (loyal) to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak during both good and difficult times.
He said there were many slanderous remarks made against Najib that were meant to project bad impressions on the government.
“As the second man, I am also affected by these remarks made against the prime minister.
“(But) I will stand by the prime minister and will not leave him alone in facing these challenges,” he said.
Zahid added that the current culture of politics appeared to be leaning towards populism, where politicians were allowed to make promises and break them later on.
He said such could be seen in the West, where politicians relied too much on rating that they become vulnerable whenever they lose support.
“As Muslim leaders, we don’t need such rating. We should only worry about the rating that has been set by Allah.” he said.
