'DBKL Ramadan bazaar scandal Harapan's first red mark'

Armed forces veterans association Persatuan Patriot Kebangsaan hopes that the issue over the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Ramadan bazaar in Kuala Lumpur purportedly involving Bersatu will be Pakatan Harapan’s first and last “red mark” incident.
“The DBKL Ramadan bazaar issue over the last few days involving a Bersatu division leader, the Bukit Bintang MP and DBKL officials is a first red mark for the Harapan government.
“Patriot hopes this first red mark incident is also the last. We have much to do in rebuilding our nation,” said Patriot president Mohamed Arshad Raji (above) in a statement today.
The Ramadan bazaar along the capital's Jalan Masjid India became the centre of controversy after a Bersatu youth leader was accused of using political connections to secure permits for 80 lots from DBKL for RM6,238.40 and then selling each permit to the traders for up to R M5,000.
Traders at the bazaar told Malaysiakini that they paid upwards of RM3,000 to secure a lot at the much-sought-after area.
Bukit Bintang Bersatu Youth chief Mohd Noorhisyam Abdul Karim has since denied taking money from the traders and is mulling lodging a police report on the allegations against him.
Mohamed Arshad, however, said that a scandal was still a scandal and the matter must be investigated fully and thoroughly.
Action must then be taken against any guilty party because only then will Harapan continue to enjoy the full confidence and respect of the people, he said.
“Patriot would like to remind Harapan MPs and state assemblypersons to be extra careful in making recommendations for licences, permits, contract works and projects,” he said.
In the same vein, civil servants should not fear politicians and oblige their "letters of support" for such ventures.
They should only allow them as long as standard operating procedures are followed and decisions are made for the benefit of the people, pointed out Mohamed Arshad. -Mkini
