D-DAY FOR ZAHID TODAY – ARREST & PROSECUTION INEVITABLE? DESPITE HIS BRAVADO, UMNO CHIEF DUE TO BE QUESTIONED BY MACC AGAIN TODAY

PUTRAJAYA – Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi left the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here after being probed for over eight hours today.

The former deputy minister emerged from MACC headquarters at 5.40pm looking weary and was then quickly ushered into the same white SUV that he came in earlier in the morning.

Speaking to reporters briefly on whether he will be summoned for another round of questioning tomorrow, he said that he will be coming there on a date and time that he sets.

“Sorry to keep you people waiting for so long. I will choose my own date and time,” he said jokingly.

However, a source told theSun that the Umno president will be called in again for questioning tomorrow.

Ahmad Zahid also tweeted soon after leaving MACC headquarters that he had completed giving his statement and was grateful that the questioning session went smoothly.

He added that his daughter Datuk Nurul Hidayah had also given her statement.

“Completed giving my statements at MACC today. On my way back home. Thank you for all your prayers. My daughter had also completed giving her statement.”

Earlier, Nurul had denied that she was questioned by the MACC, claiming that she was only there to accompany her father.

Ahmad Zahid was called in for questioning today at MACC headquarters for the third time for the alleged use of funds belonging to Yayasan Akal Budi to settle credit card payments for himself and his wife between 2014 and 2015.

Previously, on July 2 and 3, MACC had summoned the Umno president over the case when he was grilled for hours by investigators.

Ahmad Zahid has denied the allegations and claimed that his staff had made a mistake by using the foundation’s account for the credit card payments.

He also claimed that he had reimbursed the sum to the foundation that aids underprivilaged children and single mothers.

Meanwhile, MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull said there is no need to investigate the leaking of information directing Ahmad Zahid to come to the MACC for questioning.

“After we served the notice to Ahmad Zahid, it then became public knowledge, so there is no need to investigate,” he said when met at a seminar here today.

He said that the information might have leaked out as Ahmad Zahid may have told other people about it.

“He may have told his wife or lawyer or friends,” he said.

This comes after Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam claimed that his “friends” inside the MACC had informed him of Ahmad Zahid’s questioning today.

Shukri said the MACC is friends with everyone and they will not stop their officers and staff from being friends with everyone.

He did however say that leaking of evidence and information is wrong. – Sundaily

Cops say they won’t call in Zahid for now

Police have no plans to call in former deputy prime minister and current Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for questioning as of now.

Deputy inspector-general of police Noor Rashid Ibrahim (above) said this when asked by reporters today.

The question comes following former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife being probed by police over investigations into 1MDB-related cases.

“So far, there is no plan (to call in Zahid). There is no investigation being conducted by the police on Zahid,” he said during a press conference at Royal Malaysian Police College in Cheras.

Zahid was also called in by MACC today for questioning over several issues, his third time since BN lost its power in May.

Zahid was previously questioned by the anti-graft authority over the RM2.6 billion “donation” to Najib an alleged misappropriation of Akal Budi Foundation’s funds.

On another matter, Noor Rashid said police would look into a police report lodged by the youth wing of Amanah which urged police to probe an alleged cash transfer from Umno to PAS.

He said police would see if the case involved corruption or elements of commercial crime.

“So far there is no investigation. But if there is a report lodged, we will look into it.

“If it involves elements of corruption, we will refer the case to the MACC. But if it involves elements of commercial crime, police will conduct an investigation,” said Noor Rashid.

Second autopsy

Berita Harian had reported that Terengganu Amanah Youth lodged a report over a copy of a bank transaction slip involving an amount of RM1.5 million from the Umno Treasurer’s special officer to a PAS fund and another RM1 million to three individuals.

On the second post-mortem conducted on the remains of Cradle Fund chief executive officer Nazrin Hassan, the deputy IGP said they were still waiting for the full report.

“We will try to get it as soon as possible so that we can continue with our investigation.

“Hopefully by this week,” he said.

Police had on Monday exhumed the remains of Nazrin, who died in what was first thought as fire in his house in Mutiara Damansara on June 14.

The second autopsy was allowed to facilitate the probe into the case which investigators had reclassified as murder in August.  – MKINI
