Syed Saddiq: Any malpractice in NFDP will be reported to MACC
KUALA LUMPUR: The youth and sports ministry says any element of corruption or malpractice found in the audit of the National Football Development Programme (NFDP) will be reported to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said he would assess the implementation of the programme himself before reporting to the MACC.
This follows what is believed to be a leakage involving the contractor directly appointed to develop Akademi Mokhtar Dahari (AMD) in Gambang, Pahang.
Syed Saddiq said although the contractor at AMD had been paid RM85 million since 2014, the facilities provided were not commensurate with the value of money paid.
He said the problems at the NFDP were bigger than the issue of NFDP director Lim Teong Kim’s salary of RM175,000 per month without tax.
“I am serious about this matter because when I met with Lim, the coaching line-up and now here, everyone said the same thing. While we are busy discussing major issues, basic things such as inadequate number of balls also crop up.
“AMD should be the centre of excellence, on par with the Bayern Munich Academy, Japan and South Korea, but because of these things, there are many weaknesses,” he told reporters after the NFDP town hall session at the National Sports Council here last night. - FMT
