ISA SAMAD HOSPITALIZED AT IJN AS CORRUPTION CHARGES OVER FELDA’S HOTEL DEALS LOOM

EREMBAN: Former Felda chairman Tan Sri Isa Samad has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur for a routine check-up.

His wife Puan Sri Bibi Sharliza Mohd Khalid said the 69-year-old former Negri Sembilan mentri besar, who has been hospitalised since Nov 12, was in fine health.

“Many people have been calling to ask me about his condition.

“He has been admitted for a routine check up that he undergoes once every five years,” she said.

Isa had recently contested in the Oct 13 Port Dickson by-election that was won by incoming PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Isa, who was MB for 22 years, had also served as assemblyman for Linggi and Bagan Pinang and Jempol MP.

On Saturday (Nov 10), The Straits Times reported that Isa may be charged with abuse of power in connection with the purchase of a hotel in Sarawak at an inflated price during his tenure as Felda chairman.

Quoting sources, it said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) would be recommending charges to the Attorney General after concluding their investigation into the 2014 purchase of the Merdeka Palace hotel in Kuching.

Another source was also quoted in the news report as saying that the MACC is looking to charge Isa under Section 23 of the MACC Act for alleged abuse of power.

Merdeka Palace Hotel and Suites, a five-star hotel, was purchased by Felda subsidiary Felda Investment Corporation for RM160mil when it was said to be worth only RM110mil.
