I’ll walk out of interviews but not on my people, says Najib
Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak is unperturbed that the infamous Al-Jazeera interview during which he walked out on has bagged an award in the UK
"I have no problems walking away from a foreign reporter as long as I do not walk away from my people," Najib said on Facebook today.
The interview, conducted by Al-Jazeera's Mary Ann Jolley in October 2018, was awarded interview of the year by UK's Royal Television Society.
Najib had walked out when being grilled about his relationship with fugitive businessperson Jho Low.
Jolley also pressed Najib on the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.
Prior to her interview with Najib, Jolley had been deported from Malaysia in 2015 when attempting to film a story on the Altantuya murder.
In his posting today, Najib said Jolley's "obsession" with the case was unfounded.
"Please tell her that her obsession has now been proven unfounded as the police under the new government have found no evidence linking me to the Mongolian woman’s death.
"There is no cover-up. Please tell her that her conspiracy theory is misplaced as she is just another victim of an elaborately crafted political propaganda by those who are now in power today," he said.
"For the final time, I have never met the victim. Ever," he added.
Police sources told Malaysiakini last week that there was no evidence linking Najib to high-profile murder cases, including Altantuya. - Mkini
