SEMENYIH: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should not have repeated “defamatory” allegations against PAS because the PKR president himself was a victim of slander (fitnah), says the Islamist party’s deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
“I've said enough, and I don’t like to mention names, but for Anwar, I apologise because if I don’t mention his name, others might misunderstand and think this message is for someone else.
“He suffered due to slander (fitnah), and he knows how it feels. So I think it’s enough. Don’t repeat the same (slanderous) allegations against our president (Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang).”
Tuan Ibrahim was speaking during a ceramah alongside Barisan Nasional at Bandar Seri Putra on Thursday (Feb 28).
During a Pakatan Harapan ceramah on Wednesday (Feb 27) night, Anwar claimed he had evidence to show that PAS paid RM1.4mil to settle a lawsuit between Abdul Hadi and Sarawak Report.
The PKR president said he was in possession of the bank statements that showed the amount paid to the website’s editor, Clare Rewcastle Brown.
Tuan Ibrahim said PAS’ accounts was never frozen by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as part of its investigation into allegations that Umno transferred RM90mil into its party accounts.
“I just got a verification from our secretary general (Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan) that PAS’ accounts have never been frozen.
“I want to stress here that there isn’t a single PAS assets that has been seized, as it was reported that there were cars, bungalows or shops that was seized,” he said.
Earlier on Thursday (Feb 28), Takiyuddin was called in by the MACC to explain allegations about the RM90mil.
Takiyuddin said he answered questions on whether he owned a fleet of cars, a luxury motorcycle and a personalised licence plate. He said he did not think he would be called in again because he had already signed his statement.
Later at a press conference, Tuan Ibrahim said PAS would give its full support to the MACC investigation.
“Our doors are open 25 hours (sic) a day. We will provide full cooperation to the MACC to ensure that they can complete their investigations,” said Tuan Ibrahim.
MACC is investigating claims that Umno gave PAS the money in order to gain their support in the 14th General Election.
The anti-graft body had previously also called up PAS central committee member Nik Abduh Nik Aziz and former PAS deputy president Datuk Dr Nasharudin Mat Isa for questioning.
Recently, MACC confirmed that no funds in the PAS official bank accounts had come from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB). -Star
