Stop the ‘criminal blacks’, says daily in calling for action against Africans
PETALING JAYA: An editorial in a local daily this week has described the African community in Malaysia as a public menace, following the arrest of several Africans on suspicion of assaulting four policemen a week earlier.
Calling them “awang hitam”, a Malay derogatory name for blacks, the editorial in Sinar Harian said Africans were the main culprits behind serious crimes in Malaysia, and urged the government to act before “they become more aggressive”.
“The government should do something to serve as a lesson to them, so that we are not seen as a nation of soft people who can be taken for a ride anytime,” according to the article published on July 29.
It questioned the contribution of Africans residing in Malaysia, saying the community is closely linked to crimes such as murder, drug abuse and prostitution.
It said good deeds by Africans in Malaysia were too few in number “compared to the droppings left by the awang hitam who came to create problems in Malaysia”.
It said the African community would take control of neighbourhoods, while the locals would live in fear of their “insolence while they are always drunk and noisy”.
Last week, four policemen were assaulted by a group of African men when they tried to arrest a Nigerian national on suspicion of committing fraud at an apartment in Flora Damansara here.
The Sinar Harian editorial said that the latest incident was proof that Africans are big-headed.
“Do we wait until things get worse to act more aggressively?” it asked.
