MMA Champions Angela and Christian Lee Win Fights at the World’s Largest Martial Arts Event in History

Sibling duo Angela and Christian Lee both left the cage victorious at ONE: Century in Tokyo on Sunday.

The One: Century event is said to be the largest martial arts event in history where 44 fighters met for 22 matches for dominance. One Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong explained in July, “I am thrilled to announce that ONE Championship is set to throw the biggest martial arts event in history this October in Tokyo, Japan. The biggest and brightest stars of ONE Championship are ready to shine in Tokyo, and fans will surely not want to miss the festivities.”

Angela Lee was defending her atomweight world title after suffering two losses at her first two fights of 2019.

Luckily, the sweat and tears paid off for the 23-year-old MMA champion as she proved that she belongs at the top with a fifth-round submission of her opponent Xiong Jing Nan.

One hundred and twenty-five-pound Jing Nan (14-2) tapped out as 115-pound Lee (10-2) forced her into a rear-naked choke with just 12 seconds left on the clock.

Following her impressive victory, Lee revealed the doubts running through her mind prior to the fight.

“Earlier in the year, I was struggling with a lot of self-confidence, a lot of doubt. I was like, ‘Man, do I really belong here? Am I really this champion?’” she recalled at the post-fight press conference in Ryugoku Sumo Hall.

✨1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣✨ ONE: CENTURY A true celebration of martial arts; A celebration of values, culture and people! Celebrating all we have achieved together and all that is still yet to come. I get so excited thinking about it! If we accomplished this much in just one hundred events, can you even imagine what the next hundred will be like? . . . Being ONE Championship’s First Female World Champion, I take pride in how this company has risen to the top. I truly believe that we are changing the world for the better 🙌🏼 We create heroes by telling their stories and we impact and inspire the next generation by showing our true selves: Our triumphs, our failures, our comebacks and the journey that is everything in between. I take pride in the small role I play of this giant movement 🙏🏼 This is what ONE Championship is all about! We Are ONE 🌍🌎🌏

“The way that it played out this night, me having to work for it and work for, keep pushing, and then, in the end, get that finish … It’s a dream come true,” she added.

At the same event, 21-year-old Christian Lee also won the Lightweight Grand Prix after defeating Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev following a unanimous decision.

Lee agreed to step into the cage on just three week’s notice due to Eddie Alvarez’s injury. Lee’s lightweight title from his fight against Shinya Aoki in May was not on the line in this contest.

The Korean-Singaporean siblings are the world’s first concurrent brother-and-sister world MMA champions from a major organization and their most recent victories only prove that the Lee family is undeniably an unstoppable force.
