Muhyiddin: Anwar will become the next Prime Minister as agreed by PH

PONTIAN: The power transition from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will take place, asserts Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic).

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president said the transition was something unavoidable.“It is not a question of who but the timing of when it will take place.

“Dr Mahathir is our leader and let’s wait for that (transition), but in the meantime we should do our work,” he said yesterday.

Muhyiddin, who is Home Minister, said he was among the four leaders who signed the agreement (on the power transition).

The others were Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who was PKR president at the time, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

“What we discussed was who we wanted to nominate as prime minister and when we nominated Dr Mahathir, there was disagreement.

“But we manage to come around to pick Dr Mahathir as the prime minister if Pakatan wins.

“Then Anwar’s name came up to be Dr Mahathir’s successor ... as far as we know the issue is not about who but more on the timing, where party leaders should sit down and agree to it,” Muhyiddin said after a meeting with Home Ministry’s agencies.

Muhyiddin, however, said that he did not recall whether there was a date set in the agreement for the transition to take place.

He stressed it was important to show that in Pakatan Harapan there was high understanding, cooperation and commitment among the four component parties.- Star
