MPs from PAS, Umno call for ban on liquor consumption in public areas
KUALA LUMPUR: An Umno and a PAS MP have called for a ban on the sale and consumption of liquor in public places, similar to the ban on smoking at open areas.
Noh Omar (BN-Tanjong Karang) said the ban should also be extended to liquor as it was “way too dangerous than smoking”.
“If we compare smoking and consuming liquor, drinking is more dangerous, especially if you are driving,” he told the Dewan Rakyat.
He asked if the federal government will implement such a ban as such regulations come under the local councils at present.
Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PAS-Pasir Mas) also called for a ban on liquor being sold and consumed at public areas.
He said those under the influence of liquor could also pose a danger to other people.
“It (the ban) should be done immediately,” he said, bringing up the case of the man caught wandering naked in Kuala Lumpur after he consumed liquor to fight off his depression.
Fadhli also said he supported the government’s move to ban smoking at open areas. - FMT
