Guan Eng: Phantom voters allegation to fan racial sentiments

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng today said Omar Faudzar attempted to stir up racial sentiments when he accused DAP of bringing in phantom voters to defeat Umno in last year's general election.
"I think it's a wicked accusation. It's to play up racial sentiments. The most dangerous thing is that it's not true at all.
"If he (Omar) fails to produce evidence, action could be taken against him," Lim told the media after opening the Wilayah Persekutuan DAP convention in Kuala Lumpur.
Earlier, in his speech, Lim said that while the party has weaknesses, the members would overcome those by explaining to the people, not by resorting to slanders like what Umno leaders such as the Bukit Gelugor division delegate did.

"We have weaknesses but we overcome them by explaining to the people, we will not shamelessly slander (other parties) like what Umno leaders do.
"Yesterday, Omar Faudzar announced that DAP had registered phantom voters from China and India. This is wicked (accusation), attempting to influence the people to hate one another.
"The (allegation) is wrong and I have asked that we lodge a police report nationwide so action will be taken against this bad person," he said.
The finance minister dismissed other allegations made by Omar against him in relation to GLCs.
"At the same time, he (Omar) tried to show that I intended to destroy the Malay economy by selling off GLCs. Those are not under me. They are under the Prime Minister's Office. And I am not a board member of Khazanah (which owns several GLCs)."
Yesterday, Omar urged Umno lawmakers to pursue the said phantom voter matter.
"This is the strategy of DAP against us.
"Their (DAP) strategies are far better than ours, what they need now is the number. Politics is a game of numbers.
"But when it lacks in numbers, it is possible for it to get phantoms voters from another country.
"Please check because it has many strategies, which are meant to cause a problem for the Malays," Omar had said.
When met by the media after opening the convention, Lim also responded to other allegations made by Terengganu Umno representative, Wan Hisham Wan Salleh that elements of communism have infiltrated Putrajaya.
"What else is new? At the end of the day, it's all DAP's faults. That is what they want to say," Lim said.
"There's even one nasty clip circulating around where it shows a family tree poster purportedly saying that I am related to Chin Peng.
"But they know, if we are related, then surely we have the same family name. So the family name is different, how are we related?" - Mkini
