Muhyiddin: Stop the provocation
Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said his ministry will not tolerate any attempts to threaten public peace and national harmony.
He cited three recent incidents, namely, the modification of the Jalur Gemilang, the use of other languages when singing Negaraku, and an event to commemorate the Hat Yai Peace Treaty.
"There are several viral incidents of late. I urge everyone to stop making statements or perform acts which touches the sensitivities of Malaysians.
"I view this as an unhealthy trend. It is provocation designed to make things worse," he said in a statement today.
On the three issues which he cited, Muhyiddin said the police were investigating all incidents and announce developments when necessary.
Last month, the Malaysian Basketball Association (Maba) came under fire for using a single-star flag with 11 stripes in place of the Jalur Gemilang.
The association has apologised for the matter and its president has since gone on leave.
Police were also investigating a ceremony in Selangor on Dec 1, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Hat Yai Peace Treaty between the Communist Party of Malaya and the government of Malaysia.
The last investigation involved video recordings of students singing the Negaraku in languages other than Bahasa Malaysia. - mkini
