Zuraida claims Anwar tried to convince her on Azmin sex video
PKR vice president Zuraida Kamaruddin tonight alleged PKR president Anwar Ibrahim tried to convince her that a sex video featuring party deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali was real.
Zuraida (photo, centre) added that Anwar, in trying to convince her, went on to claim that Mahathir had requested for Anwar to sack Azmin.
However, Zuraida said she did not buy into the claim.
"I met Anwar three months ago. He (Anwar) said the video is really Azmin. Police say it is Azmin. I said if it was Azmin, let the police investigate and Azmin will have to accept it if it is real.
"Anwar said he (Azmin) is like a younger brother and that he pitied him so I said if that was true then help him.
"Then he claimed that Mahathir asked him to sack Azmin. But if that were true, then why did Mahathir issued up to four statements stressing that Azmin didn't need to go on leave.
"He said you don't know how Mahathir is like... Indeed, I don't know how Tun is like but neither do I know you," she told some 2,000 people at a gathering of Azmin's supporters in Kuala Lumpur today.
Zuraida was referring to a sex video featuring former Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz and someone resembling Azmin.
Haziq claimed the man in the video is Azmin but the latter claimed it to be an attempt to destroy his political career.
The gathering of Azmin's supporters tonight was symbolically held at the Renaissance Kuala Lumpur, the same venue where activists had gathered 20 years ago to form Parti Keadilan Nasional, the predecessor to PKR.
Zuraida proceeded to rip into Anwar's supporters, likening the mid-level leaders backing the party president to children in diapers and calling PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution "useless".
"(PKR communications director) Fahmi Fadzil (above), the greenhorn (budak hingusan) asked if I attended party meetings. (PKR Youth chief) Akmal Nasir, that child in diapers (budak Pampers) shouldn't show off by criticising me," she said.
Anwar's faction has painted Azmin and his allies as being uncooperative and refusing to attend party meetings.
However, Zuraida said she had sought to set up a reconciliation meeting with Anwar but to no avail.
The housing and local government minister, in her fiery speech, added that she did not fear being dismissed from the party.
"If we are sacked for doing this, Azmin and I are ready. We are ready to be sacrificed," she said.
"If we are sacked for doing this, Azmin and I are ready. We are ready to be sacrificed," she said.
The dinner dubbed "Shared Prosperity Vision 2030" feted PKR delegates and supporters, as well as leaders described as pioneers of the party and the reformasi movement.
Despite nearly losing his voice, PKR vice-president Tian Chua (above, centre) fired up the crowd with his call for the party to return to its founding principles.
He said many of them gathered tonight are no strangers to factions and contests within PKR, but remained to be with the party which they all helped to found.
"So when we see the worst happening today...those who refused to carry placards of 'Anwar as PM' is a traitor...that is not our goal.
"I joined reformasi not to lift anyone up as PM, but I joined to bring down a tyrannical prime minister," he stressed.
Other PKR leaders present tonight include central committee leaders Sivarasa Rasiah, Rashid Hasnon, Amiruddin Shaari and PKR Wanita leader Haniza Talha. - Mkini
