Sahruddin appointed Johor Harapan deputy chair

Johor Pakatan Harapan today agreed to appoint Menteri Besar Dr Sahruddin Jamal as one of the coalition's five deputy chairpersons in Johor.

Johor Harapan chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin said the appointment was made during a meeting held at the coalition's state headquarters in Johor Bahru today.

The meeting was also attended by the state's Bersatu chairperson Mazlan Bujang, state DAP chairperson Liew Chin Tong, state Amanah chairperson Aminolhuda Hassan and PKR deputy chairperson Jimmy Puah Wee Tse.

The four other Johor Harapan deputy chairpersons are Mazlan, Chin Tong, Aminolhuda and Johor PKR chairperson Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, who is also Ledang MP.

“We hope that the presence of the MB can make clearer the many things that we (coalition) do not know about, namely the policies and programmes that have been or will be implemented at the state level, for example, land tax issues, state government-level programmes and the construction of the Universiti Johor.

"These are some of the things we have decided on in the manifesto that are to be implemented, and information about them (policies and programmes) is very useful to Harapan," Muhyiddin said at a press conference after the meeting today.

On another matter, Muhyiddin, who is also home affairs minister, said Johor Harapan would hold a convention this April to allow the state leadership an opportunity to voice their views on current issues and policies as well as on their implementation.

"I think it is appropriate for us to hold this convention after almost two years of Harapan being set up because there are many efforts being made at the state and federal level that the public is not aware of [...] maybe because they are not being disseminated widely.

"So, this convention will highlight the initiatives we have undertaken so far, as well as Harapan's blueprint for the future," he said. - Bernama
