Najib glad he was not invited to Jho Low's lavish parties

Evin K: Come on, former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak. How convenient. If this is really true, then why did you protect Jho Low up to the point you were brought in to face the law?

If you had really suspected something amiss way back then, why did you continue to protect Low and derail investigations into the many wrongdoings relating to 1MDB?

Had you gone all out to apprehend Low and brought him to justice as soon as you suspected it, as you are claiming now, you wouldn’t sound so silly making all these childish afterthought excuses about how innocent you were all along.

The fact of the matter is, had BN won GE14, you would have cleared Low of all wrongdoings and buried the 1MDB case along with it.

Rupert16: So, what did you do, Najib? Initially, you denied that the funds were flowing into your personal accounts. You refused to cooperate with the Swiss, US and Singapore authorities who were conducting investigations.

You turned down your deputy’s (then second finance minister Ahmad Husni Hanazlah) request to travel to Switzerland to investigate further and to recover the laundered funds.

Then you not only sacked the attorney-general but also forced the MACC chief to resign and replace them with yesmen. Finally, you refused to allow Parliament to debate the 1MDB scandal.

So much for your statement that you did not know what Low was doing and so much for your religious oath in court.

Why should Low be obligated to give any donation at all if it was proper business and the nation is benefiting from all the financial transactions?

But because he donates, Najib was not suspicious. Najib is either stupid or it is an admission that he accepts bribes. I, for one, do not believe Najib is stupid.

Fellow Malaysian: The biggest piece of nonsense pulled in this SRC saga must be what Najib churned out today.

It is convenient to cite Low as the perpetrator, the person who kept supplying him with millions without even the recipient (Najib) knowing where the money came from.

So, RM40 billion from 1MDB vanished into thin air and Najib claimed Low only enriched himself by RM500 million.

Apa Ni: Najib, first you must get yourself a smarter lawyer. Not one already tainted by scandals.

Also, hire someone who has some respect for your intelligence because he's getting you to spout rubbish and narratives that everyone already has heard and doesn’t believe, and certainly naive for you to repeat.

Anonymous 5237890145285379: Given the seriousness of the case and the options available, the current best defence for Najib is to plead ignorance. There aren’t many other options available.

Of course, there are many pieces of evidence indicating actions taken to cover up the alleged corruption involved during the period and inaction to verify that the money spent from the infamous accounts are not from dubious sources.

So, the lawyers can only advise on pleading ignorance and behaving with a lack of intelligence.

Vijay 47: Najib, I must go along with several others here who have suggested that you take a relook at your defence team. I would imagine that the team would lead you through daily dry runs of the expected skirmishes in court.

Despite such preparation, their efforts seem to result in only your appearing – now how do I put this tactfully? - to be deficient in certain faculties.

While considerable research would have been carried out by your counsel Muhammad Shafee and friends, I feel that even though Aesop’s Fables or the Grimm Brothers have their titillating moments, more serious work is called for.

Your stories of Arabian Nights’ fabulous wealth making mysterious appearances into your various bank accounts, accounts which you claim to be neither aware nor in control of, may make for spell-binding children’s bedtime lullabies. But with adults?

You next proceeded to make things even worse for you by stating that the RM42 million you are accused of dancing with is small potatoes compared to the Fort Knox amounts Low is supposed to have reaped.

Was that a tacit admission on your part of the “lesser” accusation against you? Oh dear, oh dear - like Alice’s White Rabbit would say.

Quigonbond: Najib said he had doubts about Low only after SRC probe started. Yet for two years subsequently, he did not pursue a rigorous course of unearthing the scandal or sue any bankers for "mismanaging" his account.

At the same time, he and his wife spent lavishly. What does that tell you?

Lone Star: The fairy tales continue to come. When did Najib join the league of fairies? Could there be a Maleficent somewhere out there?
