Chinese support swings like a pendulum - Wee

Malaysiakini

Chinese political support tends to swing like a pendulum, said MCA president Wee Ka Siong.
"For example, the Chinese support in Wee Jeck Seng's (Tanjung Piai constituency) used to be 30 percent. Now (during the by-election last November) it is 65 percent.
"This is a large (swing), due to anger," said Wee (photo) in an interview with Sinar Harian that was published today.
Wee said the Chinese community was angry with the previous Pakatan Harapan government because of business concerns.
"No one says business is good. Everyone is complaining," he said.
Wee claimed that some government projects and tender conditions were modified several times and this had caused problems for contractors.
"Bumiputera contractors would lose jobs and they are being supplied by Chinese businesses.
"Not only do Malay contractors suffer, the Chinese suffer as well. Because of supply-chain issues, everyone suffers because the Harapan government were stalling and inciting the civil service," he said.
Wee also claimed that under Harapan, local government councillors were "fighting among themselves" over contracts.
"When they didn't get the contracts, the decision was to ensure the projects failed. This caused chaos.
"That is why the Chinese were demanding that the Harapan government do their work and restore confidence in the economy," he said.
He said although MCA was successful during the Tanjung Piai by-election, MCA might lose again in the future due to the pendulum swing.
Wee said the biggest problem facing the public now was the rising cost of living.
"Let those who wish to defame us continue doing so. In the end, those who can think rationally can tell from right or wrong," he said. - Mkini
