Sarikei MP tests positive for Covid-19
CORONAVIRUS | Sarikei MP Wong Ling Biu has been tested positive for Covid-19 according to well-placed sources.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has confirmed this with Malaysiakini.
Wong had been admitted to the Sibu Hospital on March 7. Bernama had earlier cited Sarawak Health director Dr Chin Zin Hong as saying the lawmaker was a patient-under-investigation.
However, DAP sources said they have been reliably informed that Wong is down with the virus.
One MP, speaking on condition of anonymity, said this was confirmed to them by health officials who were doing contact tracing.
The MP said they were with Wong in Pudu, Kuala Lumpur on March 2. Wong had flown back to Sibu that day. The MP was earlier with Wong at a meeting the day before.
It is understood that another lawmaker had carpooled with Wong and a family member while in Kuala Lumpur.
Bernama reported that Wong had attended several political meetings from Feb 29 until last week.
Sarawak has so far reported nine-cases of Covid-19, all of which have been linked to a gathering at the Sri Petaling mosque in Kuala Lumpur from Feb 27 to March 1. - Mkini
