Cops probing Melaka exco member for violating MCO in distributing food

MELAKA: A Melaka exco member has found himself in trouble for distributing food aid without adhering to procedures during the movement control order (MCO) period.
The Melaka Health Department lodged a police report against him for organising the event without conforming to MCO requirements.
The report was lodged a few days ago.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mat Kasim Karim (pic) confirmed on Thursday (April 16) that a report had been made by the department.
"We are investigating the report and will submit the investigation papers to the deputy public prosecutor for the next course of action," he said.
He said that two investigation papers have been opened — one for voluntarily obstructing a public servant in discharging his duty, an offence under Section 186 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum two-year imprisonment and RM10,000 fine or both, if convicted.
He added that the exco member is also being probed under Rule 11(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.
It is learnt that the exco member organised three food distribution events for the needy.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Sulaiman Md Ali has been briefed on the investigation initiated against his exco member. - Star
