They are praising us as a nation, says Health DG

CORONAVIRUS | Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the praise heaped on him by China Global TV Network (CGTN) was a reflection of the nation's collective effort in handling the Covid-19 outbreak.

"It is not a recognition of my (work) but the nation collectively," Noor Hisham said during his daily press conference today.

Noor Hisham said this when asked about CGTN ranking him alongside director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr Anthony Fauci and New Zealand's director-general of health Dr Ashley Bloomfield.

CGTN praised them for being trustworthy, forthright and having a calm approach in leading the battle against Covid-19 in their respective countries.

Noor Hisham said the praise belonged to all the frontliners - health workers, police, military, immigration personnel and more - who were working together to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

He said apart from health workers, two key groups made the movement control order (MCO) a success - one group handling the borders and another group restricting movements in the country.

Given this, he said this was why he believed CGTN's praise was for the entire country.

"What's important is that we, at the Health Ministry, work as a team (with everyone else).

"Take the MCO for example. We advised and the one who made the decision was the prime minister, not me," he said.

Noor Hisham also thanked government ministries and ministers for working together to implement the MCO. - Mkini
