Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Open-court proceedings nationwide will resume in stages beginning May 13, said Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat.
She said this in a media statement issued by the Chief Registrar’s Office of the Federal Court last night.
“Cases fixed for hearing at open court will resume in stages from May 13, 2020.
“Guidelines on the handling of cases and procedures to curb Covid-19 during the period of the conditional movement control order (MCO) and MCO will be issued.
“The court will ensure that the guidelines issued by the National Security Council (NSC), the Health Ministry (MOH) and the Public Service Department (PSD) will be abided with as steps to deter the spread of Covid-19 in court operations.
“All those who are dealing with the court are asked to abide by the directives and guidelines issued by the court, NSC, and MOH,” she said.
Tengku Maimun added that beginning today, court services that would begin operating are the registration office, local counters, commissioner of oath counters, power of attorney counters, e-Filing Service Bureau counters, and administrative and financial units at all Responsibility Centre and Cost Centre.
She explained that all of these are in line with the announcement by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on May 1, as well as a letter dated May 2 issued by PSD director-general Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman in regards to the operation of government departments as part of the conditional MCO.
In a Labour Day announcement on Friday last week, Muhyiddin announced that most businesses and social activities would reopen as part of the conditional MCO beginning today. - Mkini
