Thank you Anwar, for sacking me on my birthday - Santhara

Malaysiakini

Deputy Federal Territories Minister Edmund Santhara has expressed his gratitude to his former boss Anwar Ibrahim for sacking him on his birthday.
"I would like to thank the PKR president Anwar Ibrahim (above), a good gentleman. He has given me a termination letter, sacking me (from PKR) on my birthday on April 3.
"That was a birthday gift. I would like to thank him for that," Santhara said in an interview with Malaysiakini and KiniTV on Thursday.
He said this when he was asked to confirm whether he has joined Bersatu as an associate or affiliate member.
Santhara said he would rather keep a low profile on this matter for the time being as anything he says could be turned into a political statement.
"They (Bersatu) have affiliate members and associate members. Likewise, PAS has a similar concept (in accepting non-Muslim members).
"(But) that's the angle of question I don't want to answer because I would like to keep certain political questions till after the movement control order (MCO)," he said.
"At this point of time, I don't want to talk anything about party-based politics, I just want to work for the rakyat," Santhara (photo, below) said, referring to his ministerial duty where he chaired the Crisis Management Centre (CMC) in managing the MCO at the federal territories level.
A quick check in the Parliament's website on the party status of MPs showed that Santhara is a Bersatu lawmaker.
The 49-year-old businessman-turned-politician was fielded by PKR in the Segamat constituency for the first time in the 2018 general election.
On Feb 24, Santhara joined former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali and nine other MPs to quit from PKR.
The group, which joined forces with Bersatu, PAS, BN and GPS, ousted the Pakatan Harapan government on March 29.
On March 11, Prime Minister and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin confirmed that Azmin and his gang of MPs had joined Bersatu, which accepts Malay and bumiputera as members and non-bumiputeras as associate members.  - Mkini
