Pro-Mahathir sec-gen sacks secretary for sending out termination letters
The disputed Bersatu secretary-general Marzuki Yahya has removed organising secretary Muhammad Suhaimi Yahya from his post effective immediately.
This came after Suhaimi (above) had sent termination letters to five Bersatu leaders including party chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
In the termination letter sent by Marzuki and sighted by Malaysiakini, Marzuki said Suhaimi has gone against party work ethics and the Bersatu constitution by “making decisions relating the party administration and issuing membership terminations letters without my knowledge or consulting me beforehand as the chief administrator of the Bersatu headquarters and the rightful secretary-general.”
Marzuki cited Clause 8.11 of the party constitution that stipulated the secretary-general was responsible for all matters relating to the party’s membership roll.
In addition, Clauses 16.6.3 and 16.6.5 state that the secretary-general was in charge of administrative matters at the party headquarters and as well as all matters relating to membership.
For the record, Marzuki’s status as secretary-general in the party is in dispute amidst the ongoing party infighting.
Party president Muhyiddin Yassin had declared himself acting chairperson and later removed Marzuki from office on March 18. He subsequently appointed Hamzah Zainudin as secretary-general.
However, Mahathir insisted he is still chairperson since the party had rejected his resignation and he still recognised Marzuki as secretary-general.
Earlier today, Suhaimi had sent termination letters nullifying the memberships of Mahathir, his son Mukhriz, Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman as well as Bersatu supreme council members Maszlee Malik and Amiruddin Hamzah.
