Puchong Bersatu distances from associate member's complaint over May 11 meeting
The Puchong Bersatu division has distanced itself from its associate member’s complaint to the party’s disciplinary board to investigate those behind the aborted May 11 supreme council meeting.
The division chief Mohd Shukor Mustaffa said that only statements issued by the division chief and its branch chiefs can constitute its official stance on the matter.
“We would also like to explain that any statements issued on social media among others, that use the name of the Puchong division other than statements issued by the division chief and the division’s branch chiefs, are invalid and not the division’s official stance.
“It is merely the personal view of the individual concerned,” Shukor said in a statement last night.
He added that Puchong Bersatu’s official stance is that it respects (menyanjung) Dr Mahathir Mohamad as party chairperson while also respecting party president and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
“We also uphold and ask for all parties to make peace, stop politicking and support all national efforts in facing the Covid-19 pandemic that has impacted our country,” he said.
He was referring to a Malaysiakini article which quoted the division’s associate member Sarafdeen Abdul Hamid as confirming having filed a complaint to the party disciplinary board.
The article reported that six Bersatu leaders and members have written to the disciplinary board urging it to investigate and act against those who called for a supreme council meeting to be held on May 11.
The meeting, which was subsequently aborted, was to be held in the absence of Mahathir and deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir.
According to the letters sighted by Malaysiakini, the six wanted action to be taken against those who instructed for the meeting, which was described as invalid and in violation of Bersatu's constitution. - Mkini
