Marzuki questions Hamzah's ban on Bersatu 'blackout' logo

Malaysiakini

Marzuki Yahya has questioned Hamzah Zainudin's statement saying that action would be taken against party leaders and members who displayed a modified version of the party's logo.
Marzuki, who in a statement referred to himself as the party's secretary-general, claimed that Hamzah is in no position to challenge the Bersatu “blackout” logo (photo) which is being used as a protest since Hamzah had been involved in a move that went against the party's original principles.
“How can Hamzah ask questions about the logos and emblems of Bersatu when he himself is involved in the movement to sacrifice the original principles of Bersatu?
"The 'blackout' logo is a serious expression of opposition from the grassroots who wish to continue to be led by those who remain principled and to return the party to its original goals.
"Such actions do not violate any of the provisions of the Bersatu constitution, but rather it is the responsibility of party members to uphold its principles," he said in a statement last night.
Yesterday, Hamzah said leaders and members of Bersatu could not play around with and modify the party logos because action would be taken against them as the logo was a symbol that every member should cherish and defend.
On June 16, some supporters of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad launched a blackout campaign by changing the party's logo to black and white and posting it on social media sites.
Marzuki said he advised Hamzah to rethink the purpose and goals of Bersatu, since Hamzah joined the party only after defecting from Umno to join the Pakatan Harapan coalition.
“Bersatu was set up to achieve various goals for the nation and to strengthen the agenda of combating corruption and abuse of power to create good governance practices and a clean, trustworthy and integrative government.
"When the betrayal and the backdoor government was established by misusing Bersatu then the original purpose of the party's founding was undone," he said, referring to the Sheraton Move that toppled the Pakatan Harapan government in late February and led to the formation of the Perikatan Nasional administration, under which Hamzah is home minister. - Mkini
