Sabah PKR insists on using own logo in upcoming polls

SABAH POLLS | While Amanah decided to use Warisan's logo in the upcoming Sabah state election, Sabah PKR insisted on entering the polls using its own logo.

Sabah PKR Youth chief Raymond Ahuar a decision supported by the majority was made in the state leadership council (MPN) on Aug 20.

"This was a decision made by the majority in a recent meeting that we support the use of PKR's logo.

"In spite of two to three differing views, majority support had been secured, and the party president (Anwar Ibrahim) himself had issued a statement himself," he said.

His remark was in line with Anwar who said that PKR decided to use its own logo despite an earlier suggestion for political parties aligned to Warisan to contest in the elections using the Warisan logo.

Concurring, wing information chief Razeef Rakmin said the grassroots rejected the proposal to use Warisan's logo.

He said the matter no longer arises and would not be brought to the next leadership council meeting because PKR prioritises the coalition in Pakatan Harapan.

Amanah's decision in using Warisan's logo has opened up the possibility that its allies in Pakatan Harapan might follow suit.

DAP, however, has yet to state its stand. Its party secretary-general, Lim Guan Eng had said the state election issue would be discussed at the central executive committee (CEC) meeting.

When contacted today, Sabah DAP secretary Chan Foong Hin said an announcement would be made on the matter soon.

"Wait for the announcement," he said.

When asked on the announcement date, he merely said: "Soon.

In the 2018 general election, BN and Warisan - together with its Harapan allies - won 29 seats a piece out of the 60 state seats in Sabah. Parti Solidariti Rakyat Sabah (Star) won the two remaining seats.

BN's Musa Aman was sworn in as chief minister on May 10, 2018, after receiving support from Star.

However, the ruling government collapsed after the defection of a few BN lawmakers. Shafie Apdal was sworn in as chief minister on May 12, 2018.

On July 29, Musa along with 32 other state assemblypersons claimed to garner a simple majority to take over the state government.

Sabah Governor Juhar Mahiruddin, on the advice of Shafie, dissolved the state legislative assembly the next day.

Sabah goes to the polls on Sept 26 with the nomination day set on Sept 12. - Mkini
