Water supply restored for 32.28 pct of areas as of this morning

Malaysiakini

Water supply has been restored to 32.28 percent of areas affected by disruption due to river pollution as of 6.30am today.
Air Selangor, in a statement this morning, said 417 of the 12,92 affected areas now have water.
Water supply in Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor is almost completely restored with 94.12 percent and 91.7 percent of affected areas now have water supply.
However, none of the affected areas in Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Langat have seen their water supply restored yet.
The recovery progress for Petaling is at 37.17 percent, 7.91 percent for Klang and Shah Alam and 11.31 percent for Gombak.
"Efforts are actively being undertaken to stabilise the water distribution system so as to expedite the restoration of water supply in affected areas," it said.
In the interim, it urged users who already have water supply to use them conservatively as this can help a speedier restoration for areas that do not yet have water.
The Sungai Selangor Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3 and Rantau Panjang water treatment plants had to be closed down on Sept 3 have detecting pollutants in the water.
This is after pollutants were discharged into Sungai Gong that flows into Sungai Sembah which in turn feeds off Sungai Selangor.
Authorities have shut down a factory in Rawang which they suspect is responsible for the pollution.
The Selangor government has instructed the factory to be demolished. Authorities claim the heavy machinery maintenance factory is a repeat offender and was previously fined RM60,000.
Air Selangor began restarting the water treatment plant at 10.30pm on Sept 5 and the distribution flow of water was resumed at noon yesterday.
It expects water supply to be fully restored by Sept 9.
The restoration of water supply to different areas will be at varying times due to, among others, distance and elevation factors.
Water will be restored in three phases, namely from Sept 5 to Sept 7 under phase 1, Sept 7 to Sept 8 under phase 2 and Sept 8 to Sept 9 under phase 3.
