Takeover of highway concessions to be raised in Dewan Rakyat
KUALA LUMPUR: The issue of the government takeover of highway concessionaires will be raised during today’s sitting of the Dewan Rakyat.
Based on the Order Paper, Mahdzir Khalid (BN-Padang Terap) will ask the senior works minister whether the government intends to renegotiate with the concessionaires to take over the highways.
Ahmad Faizal Azumu (PPBM-Tambun) will ask the prime minister on the status of the application to upgrade the Pangkor Island jetty, and the proposal to reduce the duty-free condition on Pangkor Island from 48 hours to 24 -hours.
Nor Azrina Surip (PH-Merbok) also wants the tourism, arts and culture minister to elaborate on measures to promote the Sungai Batu archaeological site – said to be among the world’s earliest civilisation sites along with the Borobudur Temple in Central Java and Angkor Wat in Cambodia – as a tourist attraction.
The debate on the Supply Bill 2021, which covers the budget, will be held for the ninth day.
The Dewan will sit for four hours from 10am with only 80 MPs – 41 from the government and 39 from the opposition and independents – allowed at any one time to help check the spread of Covid-19.
The current meeting will be held over 27 days until Dec 15. - FMT
