Umno man thinks Muhyiddin should quit rather than engage Harapan

Umno supreme council member Mohd Razlan Rafii has strongly expressed objections to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's openness in engaging with the opposition.

Razlan said Muhyiddin should quit instead of inviting the opposition to government meetings, such as the Economic Action Council, which the prime minister said was a possibility during a live televised interview yesterday.

In a statement today, Razlan alleged that Harapan had shown ineptitude towards handling the economy and as a former ally, Muhyiddin should know better.

"(Harapan) did not focus on matters concerning the economy and the people. Harapan proposed measures which could not help the country," he said.

Among others, the Umno leader cited Amanah information chief Khalid Samad's "Harapan coin" idea, DAP deputy secretary-general Teresa Kok mooting bamboo farming and suggesting people should consume a spoonful of red palm oil regularly, as well as the "flying car" project pursued by former Bersatu supreme council member Redzuan Md Yusof.

Razlan also cited two policies implemented by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng - a RM30 e-wallet incentive and the MySalam insurance scheme - as examples of Harapan's "useless" ideas, although they reappeared in Perikatan Nasional's (PN) Budget 2021.

"These are just a few examples of 'hundreds' of failed Harapan formulas which did not benefit the people and caused destruction to the economy.

"I don't want to oppose the PN government, but what the prime minister is proposing will cause disaster to the country again," he added.

He said that should Muhyiddin insist on "bringing back" Harapan to the government, then the prime minister should "return" his position to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Razlan's sentiment was indicative of the uneasy relationship between his party Umno and PN, which threatened Muhyiddin's majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
