Bersatu and Umno at loggerheads in Johor over village chief appointments
Bersatu and Umno are at loggerheads again, this time in Johor over disagreements on the appointment of village chiefs.
Johor Bersatu Youth chief Muhammad Shamsuddin Paijan complained that the newly-appointed village chiefs are dominated by Umno.
"There was much fuss that the appointment letters of villager chiefs across Johor showed that majority of them were made in favour of one party only.
"This shows that Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohamad has not upheld the spirit of togetherness in Perikatan Nasional (PN), which he had previously promoted by ensuring equal rights among the component parties in Johor PN," Shamsuddin said in a statement.
Hasni is also the Johor Umno chief.
Shamsuddin said he believed that Hasni was a "magnanimous" person who holds on to his promises. He, therefore, hoped that the menteri besar would resolve the imbalances in the appointments.
"Johor Bersatu Youth awaits a firm, wise and harmonious resolution...," he said.
Bersatu previously led Johor but the state leadership was ceded to Umno in late February last year.
This was seen as a trade, in exchange for allowing Bersatu to dominate in the federal government. - Mkini
