YOURSAY | Voters awaiting election showdown with party-hoppers

YOURSAY | ‘If Gombak voters are wise, they should reject politicians who don’t have principles…’

Nurul Izzah vs Zuraida: Battle of giants in Ampang?

Korkor: Who is Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin to giant-slayer Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar?

Remember she slayed the rich ex-minister Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin in Lembah Pantai and ended his political career? Zuraida’s political career’s end was signed and sealed the moment she party-hopped.

As a voter in the Ampang parliamentary constituency and the Bukit Antarabangsa state constituency, this will be the best present for us after having been betrayed by these two turncoats, Zuraida and International Trade and Industry Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.

We will come out in force to assist in the campaigning and will also ensure that voters will turn out to vote for Nurul if she is fielded here. Calling all Ampang voters!

FairMalaysian: I am an Ampang voter, and together with about 200 friends, we will vote for anyone from Pakatan Harapan who stands against Zuraida.

Of course, if the giant-slayer Nurul is the party’s choice to contest in the constituency, it will be all the more sweeter.

Let Zuraida know we are voting for Harapan. Azmin's demeaning statements towards voters carrying out legal action against him has revealed his true colours.

Let us show him and his "gang" what it means to be a candidate of Harapan and what it means if he doesn’t have the backing of the coalition.

Thesaint: Yes, voters are still angry with those politicians who switched parties.

Opportunist parties who are enjoying the fruits of their party-hopping antics are also in danger of being wiped out.

Even if PKR puts a relative unknown to contest in Gombak, Ampang or Bukit Antarabangsa, they will win. Even the performance of the Langkawi constituency’s incumbent is doubtful.

BOBBYO: Why should Nurul contest there? An ordinary member should be enough to fight against betrayers who went against the very promises that they swore before the voters to keep.

If the Gombak voters are wise enough, they should reject politicians who do not have principles and have no respect for their voters.

Politicians, who put their own interest above their constituents, who give all sorts of excuses of serving their constituents in a “better manner”, we have heard and seen enough of these so-called frogs.

HangTuahPJ: Indeed, put anyone from PKR in Gombak and Bukit Antarabangsa and the voters will show Azmin and Zuraida the door because we are all upset with them. Selangor will remain a PKR and DAP stronghold even without those seats.

Maybe we should not waste Nurul and former Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli in Selangor. Put them in the states where PKR and DAP won or lost marginally, then there will be more states in Harapan fold.

Coward: @HangTuahPJ, it's all about calculation. What good is it if Nurul and Rafizi do not get elected because they contested in marginal seats?

Equally, it will be a waste of they were put in super safe seats because their potential as vote magnets will not be exploited to the fullest.

The suggestions look good on paper and it is about using their appeal to deny seats for rival parties.

The purpose here is to ensure that both will get votes and at the same time strengthen the party position in the next Parliament. Of course, showing traitors the door is icing on the cake.

BlueShark1548: PKR President Anwar Ibrahim and former deputy prime minister Wan Azizah Wan Ismail should step down so that Nurul, Rafizi, and younger leaders can lead the fight for Putrajaya in GE15. We need untainted leaders with fresh ideas to lead Malaysia.

The fight should be between the young in Harapan versus the old in Umno, PAS, and Bersatu. About 7.8 million new voters aged 21 and below are expected in GE15 if the Election Commission enrols them in time. Their votes would make the difference.

Anwar would be a stumbling block to the formation of a new coalition because he insists on being prime minister when he does not have the support and his insistence would set Harapan back and cause instability in government.

Anwar must make this sacrifice for the nation and rakyat! Will he?

Knucklehead: Malaysia is waiting for the rise of the younger generation and Nurul who may possibly be our prime minister one day.

Also, Malaysians are eagerly waiting for the retirement of old politicians from all political parties. We need these oldies to step aside to make way for young leaders to move the country forward, seriously!

RedRusa3189: Please prepare a contract for all potential candidates to sign before they are allowed to be fielded. This document will be legal and binding should they become political frogs before Parliament can pass the anti-hopping law.

The non-Malays will be the kingmakers this coming 15th general election (GE15) and I am very sure that Harapan will get more than two-thirds majority.

Please plan properly and don’t allow Parti Pejuang or those with evil politicians to hijack this hope for a new Malaysia.

RedKoala3307: I hope Zuraida will put an end to Nurul’s political career. It’s also time for her other family members to make way for other younger aspiring politicians. I salute Rafizi who opted to retire from politics.

Sensibility: The sycophantic behaviour of many Malaysiakini readers towards these bratty politicians like Nurul and Rafizi is no surprise. Wishful thinking as always.

Rafizi couldn’t even beat Azmin in a deputy presidency contest when the two were in PKR, despite having claimed to have the support. And Nurul certainly will not dare to stand in Ampang - she didn’t even defend her seat in Lembah Pantai in the last election where she was supposed to be a "giant slayer".

She ran off to Permatang Pauh and now wants to look for a new place.

YellowEagle3055: @Sensibility, Nurul and Rafizi are far from bratty. Rafizi did a lot of research exposing a lot of Umno’s financial scandals. It’s a pity that Azmin and Zuraida, despite winning high positions in PKR party elections, chose to betray the party.

If Nurul had not left Lembah Pantai, we would not have its current MP Fahmi Fadzil, who is another young, talented, charismatic politician with a great future.

Mechi: Nurul is easily one of the brightest prospects for new leadership, along with Rafizi. They will get the support to galvanise a new generation and usher in a new era in the government that has done little to eradicate corruption, enhance transparency and improve education.

Iphonezours: Rightly said by Zuraida, anybody can contest anywhere. I would very much like to see Nurul, Fahmi, Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Rafizi and the like be the new faces of PKR and Malaysian politics as they represent the future that we all need.

Zuraida's political secretary Nor Hizwan Ahmad, you said voters will not be influenced by PKR’s labelling of these two MPs as traitors.

Mind you, there are many sayings/peribahasa pertaining to traitors and I can confirm that people do not treat traitors kindly. - Mkini
