Friday, daily and 'terawih' prayers permitted in Kelantan mosques during MCO
KOTA BARU: Friday, daily and 'terawih' prayers are allowed in mosques in all districts in Kelantan from today.
Kelantan Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) president Tengku Tan Sri Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz said the congregation however must not exceed 70 percent of the mosque's capacity to enable physical distancing.
However, activities such as Quran reading, 'tazkirah' and other religious events are still barred during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.
"The congregation must be two metres apart instead of the previous one metre.
"The move will enable both men and women to perform their obligations in the final days of Ramadan this year," he said in a statement.
Tengku Mohamad Rizam, who is also the Tengku Temenggong of Kelantan, said except for Gua Musang, other mosques in the sub-districts remain closed to all other religious activities.
"The imam, bilal and siak must carry out their duties as usual. This directive will apply until a date is announced later," he said.
He urged Muslims to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) in place to help the authorities break the chain of transmission. - NST
